Ballerz Bluewater Review: Is It Worth The Hype For Football Parents?

Taking on the Robokeeper at Ballerz in Bluewater, Kent

What links Brazil and Real Madrid legend Roberto Carlos with Bluewater Shopping Centre in Kent?

The answer, as you’ve probably guessed by now, is Ballerz.

Opened in May 2024, Ballerz is a multi-million-pound, all-weather football dome, with the aforementioned Carlos firmly involved in the project.

We recently took our two boys, aged seven and six, to the immersive training venue to see if it actually lives up to the hype - and, most importantly, if it’s worth the money.

In short? The answer is a resounding yes.

Our kids had a fantastic experience, completely exhausting themselves on the impressive range of interactive activities, and genuinely didn't want to leave when the ‘final whistle’ blew.

If you're thinking about booking a slot for your own family or planning a grassroots team day out, read on for our honest, parent-to-parent review covering everything you need to know about Kent’s premier football entertainment centre.

Ballerz, Bluewater: Starlet Media’s Quick Verdict

The Best Bit: A fast-paced, high-tech variety of mini-games and a pro-level indoor pitch that gives football-mad kids the ultimate taste of life as a professional player.

The Parent Bit: Fantastic stadium-style seating, premium hospitality with live sport on screen, and the chance to jump on the pitch and get involved yourself!

The Cost Bit: It carries a premium price tag, but the sheer quality of what’s on offer and the fact there’s nothing else quite like it makes a trip to Ballerz a genuinely worthwhile treat.

Check-In, Skillzone & The Pitch: How Ballerz Actually Works

First of all, let’s touch on the venue itself. The massive Ballerz dome looks incredibly impressive from the outside, and finding your way there is very straightforward.

Parking is completely free at Bluewater (always an enormous bonus for parents!) and there’s ample space in the Upper Thames Walk section of the car park where the dome is located.

Once inside, the friendly staff assist you with the check-in process. Each player is handed a smart wristband after entering their details into the system, which includes assigning yourself a custom username or nickname for the session.

Players scan these wristbands before playing each challenge in the Skillzone - one of the two main areas at Ballerz. The Skillzone features eight automated mini-games, which the boys - and even us parents - absolutely loved.

Our eldest son already plays for a local grassroots football team and threw himself into testing his accuracy on Sharp Shooter, The Finisher, and Tiki-Taka. The games are all quick-fire and scores are tracked in real time, adding a fantastic competitive element to the session.

Our youngest son isn’t as obsessed with football just yet, but he still thoroughly enjoyed all of the challenges. That included testing himself against the legendary Robokeeper - the automated goalie tried and tested by the likes of Lionel Messi and Neymar.

The Robokeeper features seven different difficulty settings, meaning it’s perfectly suitable for players of all ages and abilities. The higher the setting, the more responsive the keeper becomes. Attempting to channel my inner Messi, I tried to beat the robot on level seven but was denied every single time. The thing was genuinely unbeatable!

However, I did manage to beat Roberto Carlos’ sprint time on the reaction game - which I was incredibly made up with, until I remembered he’s now 53 years old.

Sitting right next to the Skillzone is a stunning, pro-level indoor football pitch complete with grandstand seating and professional lighting.

But that’s not all… there’s also a fantastic dressing room area where kids can get changed before walking out. Ballerz makes this walk-out incredibly atmospheric for youngsters, using custom lighting and dramatic sound effects to recreate a true stadium tunnel environment.

Parents can watch all the action unfold directly from the sidelines or from one of the seats in the mini stands.

All in all, there’s no other experience around - certainly not in Kent - that offers football-mad kids a better opportunity to feel like a professional player.

Best Age For Ballerz: Is It Suitable For Younger Children?

Any child who already plays football - even if they don’t play for a competitive grassroots team just yet - will have a brilliant time at Ballerz.

My younger son (six) found some of the arcade tracking games a little more challenging than his older brother (seven), as things like the power-shot sensors and complex passing grids require a bit of physical coordination. However, it didn't impact his enjoyment at all - he still threw himself into every station and said he’d love to return one day.

Officially, Ballerz caters to all age brackets. They run specialised early-years ‘Mini Ballerz’ coaching sessions starting from 18 months up to five years old, while their mainstream holiday camps and open Skillzone slots are perfect for kids aged four to 14.

If your children are primary school-aged (around five to 11), they are arguably in the absolute sweet spot to get the maximum value out of the tech. For any football-mad child, Ballerz is an absolute dream destination. Ten-year-old me would have absolutely loved this place.

The Parent Comfort Factor: Food, Drink, and Spectator Seating

Great news for the adults: as well as comfortable grandstand seats to sit and watch your children showcase their skills out on the pitch, Ballerz has put a massive amount of thought into the parent hospitality experience.

Upstairs, you'll find the premium Heineken Lounge and bar area, complete with multiple screens broadcasting Sky Sports.

This means you can comfortably enjoy a drink and catch live Premier League or international matches whether the kids are with you or down on the turf.

It creates a brilliant social club vibe that sets it miles apart from your standard, chaotic soft-play centre.

Seating area at Ballerz, Bluewater

Seating immediately around the ground floor Skillzone section is a little more limited, but if you’re planning to jump in and test yourself against the Robokeeper alongside your kids, this really isn’t an issue.

For an even more exclusive experience - or if you're planning a big milestone celebration - there are luxury Pro Suites available to hire.

These private boxes cater to groups of up to 30 people, offering spectacular elevated views of the pitch alongside custom food menus and drinks packages.

We managed to get a peek at the Roberto Carlos Suite, which is decked out with heritage photos from the Brazilian legend's illustrious career.

It looks like an executive box at a Premier League ground and is a seriously cool space if you want to watch the action in style.

Ballerz Birthday Parties: Good Option For Grassroots Football Teams?

Ballerz, Bluewater, Pitch

While we attended as a single family unit, there’s absolutely no doubt that Ballerz is the ultimate venue for a kids' football birthday party or a grassroots team end-of-season presentation night.

It checks every single box a parent or coach could possibly want: high-octane entertainment in the Skillzone, organised matchplay on the main Pro Pitch, a spectacular stadium-style dressing room experience, and a dedicated, long-table party area on the ground floor where the squad can eat a post-match meal together.

For me, the standout detail, along with the dressing room, is their miniature 'Mixed Zone' - a custom media area where the kids can stand in front of an authentic sponsor backdrop and conduct a post-match interview on camera.

It’s brilliant, thoughtful touches like this that prove how much care and attention went into designing this dome. You can instantly tell that genuine football lovers - and the elite ex-pros who backed the project - carefully considered how the venue should look and, just as importantly, how it should feel for a child.

Before you leave, there’s also a cool range of merch available to purchase, including stylish home and away Ballerz shirts, socks, shinpads, water bottles and more.

Essential Matchday Logistics: Footwear, Parking & Arrival Tips

Ballerz dome at Bluewater, Kent

To ensure your trip to the Ballerz dome is stress-free, here's the essential, parent-tested checklist you need to know before hitting the road:

The Footwear Rule: Because you are moving between high-tech gaming floors in the Skillzone and the pro-grade turf on the main pitch, clean trainers or specialised indoor/astro turf trainers are essential. Leave the studded boots at home - they aren’t allowed on the interactive surfaces.

Arrival Strategy: Aim to arrive at least 15 to 20 minutes before your scheduled booking slot. This gives you plenty of breathing room to navigate the car park, get your smart wristbands at reception, and set up your custom nicknames at the BootRoom kiosks without eating into your precious playing time.

Locating the Dome: Ballerz is located in the Upper Thames Walk car park at Bluewater. Parking is completely free, and there is ample space, but choosing this specific zone means you’re just a short walk away from the entrance. However, you can still access Ballerz if you park in another section of Bluewater and fancy doing some shopping beforehand.

On that note, there are many other cool things for kids inside Bluewater once your Ballerz session has ended. Check out Bluewater’s activity page to extend your day out.
