We've all been there. It's a child's birthday or Christmas coming up and you're in that familiar position yet again: ‘what on earth do I buy this year?’
Even if you know the child loves football, finding the perfect gift can still be tricky, especially when it feels like they already own everything.
Between football cards, kits, boots, footballs, games and seemingly endless bits of equipment, our boys already have enough football stuff to fill a small dressing room.
To save you hours of browsing online (or, worse, trawling the high street), we've put together this simple guide of affordable gifts.
Each gift is marked so you can see which ones we've tested ourselves.
How We Picked These Gifts
We're football parents ourselves, so we know how quickly football gifts end up abandoned in a bedroom or shed. Gifts marked ‘Tested by us’ are things our own children have used. Gifts marked ‘Not yet tested’ were chosen because they offer something genuinely useful, fun or different, and have strong reviews from other parents.
Prices and availability were checked in October 2026.

Stocking Fillers & Collector Essentials
1. Topps Match Attax & Premier League Cards
Tested by us | Best for: ages 6-12
Price: £15.99 (Match Attax - 48 cards) | £13.99 (Topps Premier League - 40 cards)
Many kids are absolutely obsessed with Topps Match Attax and Premier League trading cards.
It's the main thing our boys have on their Christmas wish-lists. If you know the child loves football cards, you can't go wrong with a multipack or booster tin. They make fantastic stocking fillers or standalone birthday presents.
Unsure which tins or packs offer the best value this season? Read our complete guide to Match Attax and Topps Premier League cards.
2. Personalised Football Trading Card Storage Box [Starlet Store]
Best for: ages 6-12
Price: £7.49 (plus postage)
Trading cards are a staple for football-mad kids, but they end up scattered across bedroom floors. We designed this custom-printed storage box to solve exactly that problem, keeping cards safe, tidy and organised in one place.
Pro tip: pair it with a fresh booster tin or multipack (#1 on our list) for a complete, thoughtful gift bundle.
3. Personalised Football Player Acrylic Card
Best for: ages 6+
Price: £14.99
A brilliant gift for young footballers who play games like EA FC. These acrylic cards show the child's photo, overall rating and key attributes (Pace, Shooting, Dribbling), formatted like the popular video game cards. They look great mounted on a bedroom wall.
4. BBC Match of the Day Magazine: 6-Month Subscription
Read by our boys | Best for: ages 8-14
Price: £44.99 (six months)
The gift that keeps arriving. Our eldest son already reads Match of the Day magazine, and a new issue landing on the doormat every fortnight means a treat to look forward to twice a month. Each one is packed with player profiles, stats, quizzes and posters for the bedroom wall, and issues often come with cool little freebies like trading cards.
On a tighter budget? The Match of the Day Annual 2027 packs 96 pages of quizzes, stats and puzzles from the same team, and makes a great stocking filler.
5. Ultimate Football Heroes: 10-Book Collection (Series 1)
Tested by us | Best for: ages 7+
Price: £60.90 (RRP) - Currently £20.84
Our boys already own most of these, and they’re a firm favourite for bedtime reading and long car journeys to games. Each book tells the story of a star player’s journey from the playground to the top of the game, in a fast-paced, easy-to-read style that keeps football-mad kids turning the pages. The Series 1 collection covers Messi, Ronaldo, Kane, Haaland, Saka, Rice, Rashford, Neymar, Son and Fernandes.
Training Skills & Bedroom Gear
6. Top Bins Goal Target Nets
Tested by us | Best for: ages 6+
Price: £7.59
These strap straight onto the top corners of any garden goal frame, turning routine shooting practice into a game and giving kids a visual target every time. My boys (and, yes, me too!) are always in the garden trying to hit top bins.
7. Personalised Kids' Sports Bottle, 500ml [Starlet Store]
Best for: all ages
Price: £8.99 (plus postage)
A water bottle is essential for every young football player. Adding their name and a custom kit graphic means it doesn't get mixed up with their teammates' at training.
8. adidas Trionda World Cup 2026 Ball
Tested by us | Best for: all ages
Price: £24.89
The tournament may be over, but this is still the ball every football-mad kid wanted to kick around this year.
We bought the training version from Amazon a few months ago, and it’s such a beautifully-designed ball. You can buy the ball in sizes 3, 4 or 5 and it's a nice way to give a child a little piece of World Cup history.
9. Mitre Solo Close Control & Skills Trainer
Not yet tested | Best for: ages 6+
Price: £12 RRP
A clever little training aid for small gardens. The ball sits in a pouch on a 5ft stretch cord that springs it back after every touch, so kids can practise passing, shooting, close control and their weaker foot without chasing the ball over the fence. The strap keeps their hands free, and it fits a size 3, 4 or 5 ball. We haven’t tried this one yet, but it has 4.4 stars from 1,400+ reviews on Amazon.
Gift tip: the ball isn’t included, so add one if they need it.
10. LEGO Football Sets (Messi, Ronaldo, Mbappe & More)
Not yet tested | Best for: ages 7+
Price: From £17.49
A classic screen-free activity for football-mad kids. LEGO’s football range lets them build and display their favourite player. The smaller Football Highlights sets (around 500 pieces) each feature a player minifigure, a display base in their national team colours and a plaque with their stats. They’re available for Messi, Ronaldo, Mbappe and Vini Jr. For a bigger display piece, the Football Legend sets for Messi and Ronaldo are aimed at ages 12+.
We haven’t built one of these yet, but LEGO is always a big hit in our house. Check the reviews for the specific set before buying.
Off-Pitch Creativity & School Essentials
11. Personalised Kids' Football Scrapbook [Starlet Store]
Best for: ages 5-12
Price: £14 (including postage)
A brilliant, screen-free creative scrapbook that gives young players a dedicated place to record matchday memories, track team stats, write match reports or keep their sticker collections safe
12. Personalised Custom Name Kids' Football Pencil Case [Starlet Store]
Best for: ages 5-11

A stylish way to bring their love of football into the classroom. This durable, transparent pencil case is exam-ready and custom-printed with their name and squad number so it stands out on any school desk.
Hero Upgrades & Unforgettable Days Out
13. FORZA Flash Square Pop-Up Goal
Tested by us | Best for: ages 5+
Price (7ft x 5ft version): £47.99 RRP
A proper upgrade for garden football. We tested this goal (the 7ft x 5ft) version ourselves, and our verdict is that it's great in the garden but think smaller if you want to take it to the park. The 7ft x 5ft version was simple to assemble and the best part? It opens up and folds down in seconds, meaning it doesn’t always have to be taking up space in the garden.
14. Behind-the-Scenes Stadium Tour
Tested by us (Old Trafford) | Best for: ages 6+
Price: Varies
Create priceless memories for any football-obsessed child by booking a stadium tour. Most big clubs run their own stadium tours, so you can pick one that matches the child's team. Alternatively, you can also book a tour at Wembley Stadium - home of the England national team.
Tours usually include the opportunity to visit the dressing rooms, walk down the tunnel and enter the dugouts, though this varies by club.
We did the Old Trafford tour with our eldest son, Ryan, in 2024, just after he turned six, and it was a hit. He loved sitting in the dugout, seeing the pitch and the dressing room, and spotting the trophies and the wall of former players. The highlight was walking down the famous tunnel and out to the edge of the pitch.
Slightly older children will probably get more from the history of the stadium, but it's still well worth it for a younger child with a strong early love of football. We've been to Wembley many times but haven't done the tour yet, so check its official site, and your child's club site, for current prices and what's included.
